Meet the Exploit.pdf 9669 Virus

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Computer viruses are everywhere. Despite all the advantages of the Internet super highway, one still has to be careful about unwittingly downloading a virus or malwares from the Internet. Many hackers use a lot of their free time to practice on someone’s website or email and create a destructive virus such as a Trojan or a worm, in order to gather information, to mess up the program or to completely disable the computer system.

Computer viruses are the bane of today’s information technology. Perhaps to achieve equilibrium, or to create a “balanced universe” so to speak, it seems that with every good thing that comes in the world (in this case, the techie market), some other bad things crops up to destroy it. Because most industrialized countries nowadays have placed too much faith on computer systems, and their ability to hold and safe keep a lot of valuable information, literally millions and billions of dollars are spent on antivirus programs and software in order to keep computer hackers and viruses at bay. For instance, in the United States, about $800 million on security programs have been spent for this purpose.

Still, for every solution, there is always a loop hole. Every time new programs of the antivirus software are launched at least “detain” or “quarantine” these malicious viruses, new ones still manage to appear or re-appear in a new form. Some viruses could seriously affect the computer;s hard drive. Some viruses affects computer operations for hours, days, and sometimes weeks on end. Other malicious software are sneaky and use a lot tricks to infect a computer, like installing a program with a loaded virus without the computer user’s knowledge. Other viruses are stubborn, continuously infecting the computer even when the user tries to remove or delete the virus from its system. For example, a new virus has recently been messing up computers. Called Exploit.pdf or Exploit.pdf 9669, what it does is that it freezes up the mouse, its pointer unable to move, while the computer program slows down, frustrating computer users and making it almost impossible to continue on working. Some computer programmers have observed that the Exploit.pdf seems to be mimicking and matching the old computer viruses older HTML codes such as ClamAv.

To avoid the hassle of viruses, one must be very careful when using the Internet. It is always wise to check the reliability of the source before downloading data. To ensure the safety of your PC, one can try out the cyberdefender free download for a cyberdefender free trial and check how a security system can give one’s computer a peace of mind.

Is Cloud Computing the Wave of the Future?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Cloud computing is a way of using a computer by linking up to the internet and using all the applications and resources available from service providers on the Internet, without the necessity of having any of the applications on one’s own computer. This sort of computing requires broad network access, services and applications that are available on demand, measurement of the services provided and of course your own computer with the minimum hardware that can take advantage of all the resources available.

Hardware

Customers who use cloud computing for their IT needs do not have to own the physical infrastructure needed to run all the resources and services. They would be instead renting the usage of such hardware and resources from a service provider and paying for just those services that they use. This would be akin to utility service providers who provide electricity, water or even entertainment. You pay only for that what you consume and the utility provider would have to take care of all the other aspects of having the resources and ensuring their availability. Many organizations when they set up an IT facility have to provide for peak load limits and their capital cost of hardware can therefore be quite high, even though most of these hardware and other uses would remain idle for fairly long lengths of time. In the case of cloud computing, this hardware would be spread over hundreds of thousands of users making the cost per person practically negligible.

Software

All IT applications need software that has to be constantly upgraded in order to keep the user up to date so that he is always using the latest applications. Besides the high cost of this software, a lot of computing time is also lost in the constant upgrades as these have to be installed, configurations to be done and probably personnel have to be trained to use the latest upgrade. In cloud computing, the software being provided by the provider would always have the latest upgrades which would always be available to all users. No computing time would be lost, as the service provider would have his own system of upgrading the software on his servers before allowing his customers to access it. All divisions of a company spread across the country would be using the same software and there would be no compatibility problems. High speed bandwidth which is freely available nowadays would make it easy for a computer user to work with all his clients, suppliers and employees on a real time basis where the same information is available to everyone at the same time.

Economics

Capital expenditure which is quite high for setting up any IT department can almost be reduced to practically zero. There is no need for any high end servers and other infrastructure required. Simple desktop computers or even lap tops will serve the purpose and in today’s world this is a facility that is available on almost all office desks. There is no need to retain the services of any dedicated IT professionals to manage the organizations IT hardware and software. All that an organization has to do is to set up subscriptions for each of the employees who need this facility and also pay the consequent usage bills. Security aspects are also catered for and the service providers can arrange to see that information or data that they have on their servers is available only to those that are authorized. As subscription and usage charges have to be borne by an organization it is not very clear whether there is an ultimate saving, but the advantage of reducing capital cost has to make its impact felt on a company’s balance sheet.

Writing is a hobby which I have picked up again after being away from it for a couple of decades. Four decades actually while i was busy with a career as a civil engineer.Whether I will be successful and be able to earn some money from writing I do not know. But one thing is certain. The hours of the day go by quite easily when I am writing and reading, and that is how I would like the rest of my life to be. I write on almost any topic that interest me, and my articles are on view on the web. Check my website at http://www.jaybazaar.org

How to Access Personal Email Away From Home

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

When you’re enjoying internet access at home, retrieving your email is simple. You can simply log into your provider’s website to view and respond to messages. Or, you can download it into a separate client. Everything you need is on one computer and as long as you’re at home, the entire process is trouble-free. But, what happens when you go on a trip? Even if you take your laptop with you, how will you retrieve your messages?

In this article, we’ll explain how you can maintain email contact with people when you’re on the road. Whether you’re in another state or traveling across the globe, emailing from the account given to you by your internet provider is simple. We’ll show you how to do it below.

Looking For Online Access

If you’re taking your laptop with you, finding online access is easy. There are thousands of coffee shops, restaurants, and other hotspots through which you can connect. But, let’s suppose you don’t have your laptop with you while you’re on the road. You’ll still need to have an internet connection to access your internet provider’s email in-box. Check with local libraries or the hotel at which you’re staying. If you’re traveling by plane, check with the airports. All of these should have options to connect online, even if you have to pay a small fee to do so.

Getting Into Your POP Mailbox

A lot of people think they cannot access their emailing account through their internet service provider while they’re on the road. In fact, not only can they do so, but it’s relatively pain-free. There are several online services that specifically cater to people who need to retrieve the messages sent to their ISP account. As long as you have a connection to the internet and a few pieces of information from your ISP, you can access your POP mailbox.

Generally, the only information you’ll need is your username and password for your POP account, and the email server name. The gateway service will log into your ISP’s account so you can read and respond to messages. One quick note about using these services: CC yourself. Otherwise, you may not have a copy of what you emailed.

What About Web-Based Services?

Many people have started using Gmail and other web-based email services. To be sure, they can be effective, especially since many can pull messages from your POP account. Just realize that you’ll have to cope with advertising and other quirks that help these services pay the bills. Also, keep in mind that some people have suggested that there are privacy issues with regards to using Gmail. If you’re going to use web-based email, understand the potential vulnerabilities.

Being on the road does not preclude emailing your friends and family. Plan ahead to find an online connection and use a gateway service to get into your ISP’s POP account. You’ll likely find that it’s one of the simplest parts of traveling.

For Today’s Technologically-Challenged Woman – Telecom Technology 101

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Okay, I give a respectful nod to any woman out there who would be offended by the title of this article and would consider the content as basic knowledge. But for some of us, yours truly included, becoming technologically savvy in today’s wired world has left me feeling a bit “tangled.” I know others out there feel the same way – you know who you are!

Anyway, I was thinking about high speed internet service. My husband decided that for Christmas last year, he would get us out of the dark ages of dial-up and purchase high speed internet for the entire family. He did some checking on the technologies available, along with speeds and services included with each provider. And voila! All of a sudden I am wired for surf. I found out that we have DSL service, which is an acronym for digital subscriber lines. The internet connection is accomplished through existing phone technology and infrastructure of 2-wire copper landlines. It does not interfere with my analog phone service the way dial-up connection did, and it does not need to be dialed in to, because I found out I’m always connected.

Then I hear all sorts of terminology besides DSL such as fiber-optic high speed internet, bandwidth technology, satellite internet, and I started doing a little bit of digging. I found out that some internet connections are accomplished through existing cable television lines. Data is exchanged on certain television channels designated for data exchange. High speed internet on existing cable lines makes a lot of sense as the infrastructure is already widely available. But then I found out about something called bandwidth. With cable internet, you actually share the bandwidth network with people in your neighborhood on a cable that is capable of a certain number of users and data exchange at once. In other words, bandwidth is the term that describes how many users can send and receive information at the same time. Because of shared bandwidth, internet speed can sometimes be compromised.

What’s different about the new fiber-optic technology, though, is that the fiber-optic cable is laid all the way to your home. Speed and service are supposed to be superior with this new technology. In fact, even the entry level speed of fiber-optic based internet service is impressive.

I also ran across high speed internet connection through satellite for folks who do not reside in an area where either DSL or cable is available. Satellite internet service offers similar speeds and capabilities that the other technologies do, but it tends to be more expensive and it requires that you sign a contract for a certain time frame.

One way to save money is to purchase a bundled package where your internet service, telephone and television are all purchased by one provider and billed on one convenient bill.

So there you have it – high speed internet at a glance. I think I’m going to tackle wireless internet vs. wired next. What do you think?

Don’t stay in the dark ages when it comes to understanding high speed internet technology. To compare broadband service providers is easier than you think with a basic overview of the terminology. The best way to go about making a decision is by gathering information from our review of internet providers, which is an easy-to-understand resource.
