Content Management Software Solutions

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Content Management Software (CMS) provides community building through blogging, personalization, forums and message boards. It helps build customer loyalty with subscriptions and RSS feeds. It allows you to easily manage lots of content from multiple authors.

How do you decide what CMS software to use for the management of your web site content?

What CMS authoring tools should you use?

Let’s discuss a few different content management solutions:

Open Source

This is probably the most popular because it’s free to acquire, has lots of flexibility plus there is a very active Open Source Community for support. You’ll only need to purchase a domain name and a hosting service.

Hosted

You have less control with a hosted solution because the company selling the software hosts and maintains the CMS. This frees you from administrative responsibilities and reduces the initial cost but will cost you more in the long term.

Commercial

A commercial CMS designer builds the CMS application then sells it to you. You will be responsible for the maintenance. You have more control but your initial costs will be expensive because it is custom built.

Nonprofit

Many CMS sites are built for nonprofit companies sometimes. These types may be hosted or commercial. The features built into them are geared towards the organization.

My recommendation

I strongly recommend Open Source Content Management Software because, it’s free, has hundreds of templates to choose from, contains good documentation and provides lots of support from open source forums.

If you’re not a do-it-yourself type person or prefer a custom built solution hire a web designer. Ask him to show you sample sites where he’s used a content management system to build them.

Content Management Systems – An Overview

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Content management system, is the most important computer application for the handling of a project. It is more like a computer administration system, which is used for work management. The content management system is used for the stocking, versioning, controlling and the publishing of documents that are industry specific. Under these documents come various sales guides, operational manuals, news articles, technical manuals etc.

There are different types of content management systems like the web CMS, Enterprise CMS, Component CMS, mobile CMS, Document management system and many more. It is imperative that you choose the content management system that is appropriate to your industry requirements.

Form the general and operational point of view when you opt for a content management system then look for a vendor that is reliable and with whom you can have a long-term relationship. Check for the background of the company from whom you are going to subscribe the content management system. In case you are looking for a system for managing a single project then mention your accurate functional requirements and ask for technical support during the beginning of the project.

It is essential that you understand the pros and cons of each type of the content management systems.

Commercial CMS: This has the widest features among all the types of CMS. Its main benefit is the quick provision of consistent solution. However, unless your have a first hand experience with the functioning of this system it would be difficult to assess the evaluation and quality.

Homegrown: This is supported by, single web development companies for, their own projects. The major advantage is that the system can be hacked and customized according to the individual requirements however on the other hand you would be dependent on a single vendor.

High-end CMS: There are limited vendors for this type, but the main feature is that they deliver high quality enterprise solutions.

Open Source: With this the software is available free of cost to anyone, the advantage is that you can escape the license fee and on the same hand you can customize your product. The looming point is that some of the features might not have a high quality commercial security and stability.

When selecting the content-management system for your project mull over, the licensing costs, the application platform availability and the total cost of the system. Having a content management system to organize your work is a true blessing that can be of great help to increase the incorporation and the mechanization of the process.

Domain Expiry – Scan, Track & Notify Expiring Domains

Friday, December 31st, 2010

To date, around fifty million domains are registered as dot coms. With this number in mind, the likelihood of getting an unused and available 2 letter or 3 letter domain is slim to none. Haggling over prices with domain speculators is a tedious and oftentimes futile process, and can be very expensive.

The allure of acquiring 2 and 3 letter.com and.net domains is not unfounded — these are capable of giving your website strong recall, and an overall powerful brand. Statistics say that, of the thousands of possible 2 and 3 letter combinations and sequences, virtually none are available to the web developer.

If you wish to acquire a great domain comprised of two or three letters, you will have to contend with swarms of speculators who will give you a hard time if you want to register one.

To give your website a name with two or three characters, you can use a domain expiry tracker and domain name scanner. These tools will inform you when a high-demand domain name is available, so you can act fast and register it for your website. The scanner will identify all the possible two to three letter and number combinations, and highlight the ones that are available. If the one you want is not available, the domain expiry tracker script can help by giving domain expire notification. Many businesses can benefit from using domain scanning or domain tracking scripts for themselves or their clients, helping to land that much-desired name soon as soon as possible.

A domain scanner or domain expiry tracker script can also aid the speculator who owns a number of domains, especially if one has purchased various names from different providers or needs to automatically renew registration. If you’re in the business of buying popular domain names for resale, domain scanner and expiry tracker scripts can be a big help. These applications can even analyze where domains are hosted, and registration information.

Domain scanners and domain expiry tracker scripts are invaluable tools for any online business. Considering that almost all short names possible are already taken, these scripts can give you an edge in taking that two or three letter domain for yourself, without all the hard work. These tools will help you significantly improve your chance of getting that domain name, and give you the potential to create a powerful online brand and presence.

Common Email Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Email marketing can be very effective for promoting your business but it is easy to make mistakes if you don’t know the right methods to use. It will cost you money, yet not generate any additional sales. Here are some common email marketing mistakes you need to avoid so your marketing strategies will be more effective.

Your customers want to feel like people, not just a number, so never use generic terms in your email marketing. Address each customer by name if you can. It costs more to do, but it is more effective and well worth it.

Don’t use pound / dollar signs in your email as customers think that you only want their money.

Don’t use email marketing during the holidays as customers receive a lot at those times and you simply will not stand out. If you want to market for Christmas, for example, do it early, a month or so in advance, and follow up a couple of weeks before.

Don’t ramble! Your customers don’t have much time and will not want to waste it reading your email – put the most attention grabbing information first and keep your emails short.

Don’t forget to test your email in the most popular email services, like Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo! as not all of them will display your email the same. Always give the consumer the option of opening the email in either HTML or plain text. And use either Arial or Helvetica as your font to be 99.9% sure that everyone will be able to read it.

Don’t sell the email addresses and information you get from your customers and make sure your email sign up clearly states that you won’t. You will be surprised how many people won’t sign up for your email promotions if you don’t offer this bit of information.

Don’t think your customers will want to receive your emails forever. It is natural to expect to lose customers over time but when you do you want them to leave you with a good opinion so that when they need your kind of services again it’s you they will come back to. Offer a link where customers can unsubscribe from your email marketing mailing list. While you want to do all you can to keep them reading your emails, it is important to respect their wishes and remove them from the mailing list immediately.

Don’t think you know it all. If you are new to email marketing, you should consider using a professional to advise you. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and will help to make sure you get the best out of your campaign and yield the best results. They will also be able to help with the sending and tracking of your email campaign, allowing you to tweak it to get even better results.

Email marketing can be very effective for your business if you keep these common mistakes from becoming part of your marketing plan.

Improve Your Online Email Marketing

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

There are many different ways to market a product and one of the most personalized ways of advertising is through direct marketing. Direct marketing is the only advertising tool that communicates directly with its customers and since this is more personalized, more and more companies are practicing it. And from all the different direct marketing styles, email marketing is one of the most popular direct marketing tools that are being used today.

Email marketing is a kind of marketing where a company makes use of the electronic mail to reach out to its customers. These companies send out these emails to inform them of new products or promos that a company may have while others use it to maintain their customer relationships.

Because of the effectiveness of this email marketing more and more companies are using it and other than it being very effective, this strategy brings about countless benefits like it being cost-efficient. The use of electronic mail is relatively cheaper compared to some other use of mass media. There is no need for you to print out ads or letters and you can do away with postage expense. All you have to do is spend on a good email marketing

software or provider so that you can send out your ad campaigns to the people.

Other than that, email marketing is a good way to reach out to people all over the world. The internet can easily reach a person who has an internet connection making it easy for these people to make an instant response to the email that you have sent.

Also, using the electronic mail for marketing is definitely more personalized than other media. You can easily change the greetings and the contents of the email depending on your customer’s preference. Besides that, you can easily find new prospects with the use of the email and it will be easier for you to stay in touch with previous customers because they can easily put your emails in one folder for their future use.

The greatest benefit that a company could get from using electronic mail for marketing is that it can be a great tool for increasing sales and for repeat business. When you constantly remind a person of your products they will eventually purchase it and once they do, it will be easier for you to maintain that relationship and to create repeat sales.

Other than that, with the help of email marketing you can easily get your customer’s feedback about your product or services. Whether they are satisfied with the product or there is room for improvement, you can easily find out what their thoughts are with the help of the electronic mail.

To most people the internet has become such a necessity for them that they cannot live without it anymore. That is why it can be a great marketing tool for you to use to be able to reach out to your customer in a way that is faster, cheaper and easier. This will be the perfect direct marketing strategy that you could use because with just a few clicks, you and your customers can easily complete a transaction.
