There is little point to setting up article marketing if you do not intend to also run an email campaign of some type. The connection between email marketing and article marketing is intrinsic to the process of monetization.
The exception is if you are writing articles as an interest about some topic that you want to share regardless of making money online.
For the internet marketer, writing articles is intimately linked to a subsequent email campaign that handles the development of a subscriber list and the promotion of products.
Articles are written to establish your credentials as an expert in your niche and to encourage your readers to follow up by signing up to a newsletter or email campaign.
Articles are not an end in themselves for anyone using the opportunity to build an online business.
The point for them is to generate traffic and to build a list from that.
The list is the all important end of article writing.
The all important end of having a list, built from article submission, is to have email campaigns to provide more useful information and to presell your products.
For the online marketer, who is utilizing free traffic generation, promotion of products through an email campaign is the principal option available that has no cost.
Of course, free traffic generation can be built through social media options such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and blogging.
However, this is essentially the same as writing articles – although in the case of Twitter, they are very short articles.
Using social media must, like articles, guide readers to a squeeze page – and preferably one that captures a name and email address so that you can build a list – for a subsequent email campaign.
In fact, it is good practice to submit articles and to use social media options in a parallel campaign. And further, the tweets, FB comments and blogs ought to mirror the message of the articles written.
In fact, some article directories, will have an option for you to Tweet or FB “like”. EzineArticles.com for example have linked accounts to Twitter, MySpace, FriendFeed, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

In the email marketing world, list growth is key. Lists will dwindle down over time as people unsubscribe and abandon their old email addresses, so adding new members is critical. The right way to add members is to use a subscribe form with opt-in confirmation, but this method is not always possible. Sometimes members need to be added in large batches, and this is where marketers can get themselves into trouble.
Slow list growth rarely has any major complications. Even if new recipients have entered the wrong email address or use the spam button to unsubscribe (because they have changed their mind about wanting your email newsletter), these negative metrics will not diminish a marketer’s well-established sender reputation. This is the reputation that the ISP’s monitor closely before routing your messages to your audience’s inboxes. The ISP’s accept an occasional invalid address. They will even forgive an occasional spam complaint.
But when a large list of addresses is uploaded and there is a large percentage of invalid addresses and a slew of spam complaints, then the ISP’s have a change of heart. Messages now are getting sent to the Junk folder or start bouncing. Email marketers must handle this type of growth with a little more panache.
First, know the source of addresses. If these addresses were purchased from a data seller, odds are extremely high that your reputation is going to take a major dive. Purchased lists almost always contain a high number of invalid addresses, and the vast majority of the people being mailed to will have no idea who the sender is and will not want the mail. This will result in high spam complaints.
Second, test the list. Send to 500 – 1,000 addresses and see what the response is like. If the new list came from a new business partner and is a couple years old, maybe the percentage of invalid addresses is a little high and complaints are not too high. The list will not hurt your reputation if added and mailed to slowly over several mailings. I would caution about loading and sending to this type of list all at once. If the new list matches the good results of the established list, then it can be loaded and sent to in larger numbers.
Third, know that the ISP’s are on the lookout for large mailing size increases. Any mailing that is more than 30% of the norm will put the ISP’s on notice and they may send some of the message to the Junk folder just to make sure their account holders still want your message.
List growth is essential. Who does not want a bigger audience? But growing too fast can prevent an already established audience from hearing what you have to say. So grow slowly and benefit.
