Email Marketing – Single Opt-In Versus Double Opt-In List Building

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

You have just decided to start building your own email list. What’s it going to be – single opt-in or double opt-in?

Some marketers will say that single opt-in is the way to go because you will lose less sign-ups. That is true. But you’re putting your business at risk with a single opt-in set-up.

Many marketers will agree with me that single opt-in will be outlawed one day. So the faster one builds a double opt-in list the better.

There are many pluses of double opt-in too:

1. Less risks

2. Protected from future clamp-down on single opt-in

3. Higher deliverability rates.

4. More responsive subscribers.

You already see some prominent marketers building separate lists by sending an email to their single opt-in subscribers to opt-in to their double opt-in list. This will become a trend soon.

Not to mention, many of the single opt-ins will be crap emails anyway. I know when I really was interested to opt-in to a list, I would eagerly log in to my inbox and confirm right away. Single opt-ins are just not as responsive and you’ll find yourself having a lower deliverability rate too as your emails will go through a different server from the double opt-in ones, if you use a service like Aweber or Get Response. There are also the dangers of people entering your competitor’s email address in your sign-up form. With double opt-in, the most that will happen out of these fraudulent emails will get confirmation email and no more.

So go for double opt-in and don’t look back!

Email Marketing – Should You Email Your List Everyday? (The Truth)

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Should you email your list everyday? There is no definitive rule.

There are some marketers who email offers everyday and do very well. Others email once every few days. Others once every few weeks.

All of the methods can work well. Those marketers who email offers everyday wouldn’t be doing it if they are experiencing diminishing returns. My guess is that the strategy of emailing an affiliate offer every day of the month is generating some insane cash for them.

If you have a list of 20,000 subscribers, that is 20,000 potential buyers. If you hit them with an offer every day, you are bound to offer something that some portion of your list will want to buy. And if you have traffic sources pumping in new leads every day, you don’t have too worry too much about unsubscribes as long as your attrition rate can’t keep up with the rate you are getting new opt-ins.

The downside with this strategy is that you may alienate a large portion of your list. Some people will stop opening your emails because they have become so used to them, they start ignoring them. Many will unsubscribe.

An excellent way to work this out will be to built two test lists – one where you email every few days and another one where you email a paid offer every day. Then, calculate your profits at the end of the month. Let this test run for a few months to see if you are getting diminishing returns. You may be surprised at what you find.

The bottom line is: be open to different approaches

Email Marketing – How to Put the Unstoppable Power of ‘Ad Swaps’ Into Your Email Marketing

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Ad swaps are one of the easiest and fastest ways to build a list that I’ve found! They involve swapping broadcast emails with your JV partner to promote each of your squeeze pages to build your lists. This is the fastest way I have personally used to build my list and my list size has tripled in the past few months because of this underground method.

Here are some things to take note of when doing ad swaps:

1. Create your own sample promo emails and have them ready for your ad swaps. When you create your own promo emails for your squeeze page, you make it easier for your partner to just copy and paste your email into their autoresponder. Also, if you have tested certain subject lines before, you can get the best response for your ad swaps by using them in your sample emails.

2. Keep the JV email short and to the point. People are busy and don’t have time to read a long email about a JV with someone they don’t know – yet.

3. Provide proof of your list size and if possible, number of clickthroughs from your recent email broadcasts to give your ad swap partner an idea of how much traffic he will receive.

4. If your ad swap was successful, do another ad swap in a few months time. This time, send to your new leads that you have acquired since the last swap. Your partner can do the same. Do this every few months to help each other grow your lists using this co-op arrangement.

Email Marketing – How To Hire A Reputable Email Campaigner For Your Email Marketing Business!

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

If you want to launch a successful email campaign for your business, or a specific product, it might be best to hire someone that has experience in this type of marketing. Among other things, someone that works with email campaigns professionally is more likely to be aware of the regulations surrounding spam, as well as methods for ensuring that their campaigns do not result in legal ramifications. That said, as you search for an email campaigner, there are some things you will want to be sure of before you sign on.

As may be expected, an email campaigner that has been in business for a number of years is more likely to be aware of anti-spam laws than someone that is just starting out. On the other hand, it might also be useful to ask your potential email campaigner for a customer list. You can then check to see if any of those businesses have had spam complaints lodged against their server. If you find that other businesses using this particular email campaigner are blacklisted, it might be best to look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there may be times when you may feel that an experienced and reputable email campaigner will charge too much for their services. On the other hand, if you do not want your domain blocked from search engines because of spam issues, or wind up with legal issues, it would be best to spend the little bit of extra money. Perhaps as you weigh this particular issue, you may simply want to wait and see if other forms of marketing will suit your needs first.

Email Marketing – Hazards Associated With Email Marketing That You Need To Know About

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Without a question, there are numerous benefits associated with an inexpensive way to reach potential customers. Unfortunately, these can be outweighed by practices that will induce that same customer to place your website in their “do not visit” folder. Clearly, you do not want to send someone an email for your site, only to have them view it in a negative way before even seeing what you have to offer.

In some instances, the inappropriate usage of email may even cause a potential customer to avoid all websites selling similar online products. This is a concern for members of entire industries, and may well need to be addressed at that level. As an example, people that want to offer online education courses should be very concerned about the proliferation of spam messages sent by certain universities.

Aside from being annoying, there are some other hazards associated with sending unsolicited emails. Today, governments all over the world are concerned about the way spam interferes with internet traffic, and the ability of global businesses to conduct operations. As a result, new laws are making it very easy to charge and convict individuals of sending spam.

Some marketers believe that the best way to market on the internet is to simply purchase a list of email addresses. At the same time, these marketers frequently update their spam filters and strive to make sure that their legitimate contact information does not fall into the hands of marketers just like themselves. That said, with a little bit of patience and effort, you can find ways that to build a valuable list of customers to contact via email on a regular basis.
