Advice For Buying a Used Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette has been a dream car for many ever since it was first produced. Used Corvettes don’t decrease in value either, they go up. Why is this car so fascinating to so many people?

The older Corvettes, those produced before 1984, show classic car looks and muscle. The newer models have muscle but fantastic handling and sporty looks. So you have a two seater car that can appeal to a wide range of people. There are always those looking for the unique two seat car.

If you’re going to buy a used Corvette, and you’re serious about buying one that you found, get the car inspected by a competent mechanic with knowledge of Chevy Corvettes. Don’t take the car to a mechanic that only sees Japanese or European cars as they won’t know what is common to look for in a Corvette. Also make sure the mechanic is comfortable with the year of the used car too. I know one mechanic that won’t touch a 1977 Corvette but will work on the newer models.

If I take the used Corvette to get checked out and I find out the title is salvage or reconstructed then I pass on it. Those cars are hard to resell and aren’t worth the price that’s being asked. Mechanical problems are fine for some people because they like to tinker on their cars but for others that would be a problem and cause them to turn down the car.

It’s very hard to tell if you’re looking at a used Corvette fully restored with original parts or one that uses non OEM parts. A good indicator is the price as faithfully restored used Corvettes are going to be expensive. Make sure you ask if the car has been certified by the NCRS (National Corvette Restorer’s Society) or Bloomington Gold. A certification from these means people that know Corvettes have full inspected the car and found it to be correct in every way.
