Times change and ideas become commonplace, 5 years ago you could hardly begin to fathom a content management system that you would trust with the well being of your business.
Companies had to go out and hire one or more developers, which turned around custom software, and after much frustration, open source content management systems started rising out of thin air. Now some people argue that there may be way too many content management systems doing the same thing, others argue that the competition is healthy, while most just get lost in the confusion.
Most Content Management Systems cater to specific use cases, like WordPress for example, which was designed from the ground up with Blogging in mind, and later included support for regular pages, as the demand for a more versatile CMS (Content Management System) grew. It also included a plugin system, to further extend the functionality that it could provide to the user.
Joomla is quite famous for it’s generally neat and powerful ability to handle content publishing of any kind, neat administration area and a large user base. As time progressed Joomla introduced a plugin system that would allow users to make relative changes to the way their sites worked in order to fulfill specific use cases.
Other types of Content Management Systems that aim to be more flexible and begin to take the shape of more of a platform and less of a turnkey Content Management systems are projects like Ruby on Rails and Drupal. Ruby on Rails runs on the Ruby programming language and is an agile development framework with no readily available functionality out of the box, their plugins are called gems and with some know how and a few gems, you can have a website ready-made, however without any knowledge of ruby, you may be out of luck.
Drupal is the marriage between a turnkey solution and a fully expandable and powerful framework framework. With thousands of modules that provide turnkey solutions to complex solutions to abstract workhorse modules that can fulfill just about any use case you throw at them, Drupal captures the practical spirit of agile development in it’s purest form. Why develop an interface for every web application when the user can have most of the grunt work cut out of the way? thus allowing the user to focus on unique, and case specific functionality, not on a login box. You can run a blog with a shopping cart and a roll your client’s info into a CRM section of your site, all inside of a Drupal website, comfortably.

Do you think you need a website but you are not very sure? Maybe you just have a small business and you never thought about hitting a wider market but let’s be honest – in the ever-growing world of business you need a website to exist. A website is your online business card.
6 Reasons Why You Need a Website
- Whether your business is large or small, whether you directly work with people or not, whether you plan to sell online or not, you need a website to access a world of infinite possibilities.
- If you want to be taken seriously, then you must have a professional website that will talk the business for you. It’s like an answering machine that always knows what to say.
- If you build a website, you can also build a community for people who you can constantly update with the latest products or services. This way, former clients can become current ones.
- If you find a great position to place your website on (and I’m not just talking about page ranks), you would be surprised where you could find amazing collaborations. Success leaches on success.
- You can always request feedback from your clients/readers with a simple and honest e-mail. The quickest way to make your food delicious is by asking your clients what flavors they like.
- A business to die for will always need a website. Your competitors already have one!
In the world of business, the bottom line is that websites are cheap to build, maintain and they generate income.
Need a Website? Start with WordPress
WordPress is an open source blogging platform that over 25 milion users choose to work with when they need a website. So, yes: it’s extremely popular. What makes it so great? This CMS (Content Management System) is powered by PHP and MySQL but you can work around it without editing PHP or HTML coding. If you do not have any experience with website building but you want to promote a business, an idea or just yourself, then WordPress is the place where you want to start.
8 Benefits for Working with WordPress
- You choose your own domain name. For example, awesome.com sounds more confident than awesome.wordpress.com
- You get a lot of free plugins to play with – Google XML Sitemaps, Contact Form, All in One SEO Pack, Google Analytics for WordPress etc.
- Every site needs a theme. “Pretty colors” is the first thing the user sees when he visits your website. WordPress offers a multitude of free themes as well as more professional ones.
- Get a free WordPress design or buy one (for a small price), and mold it to your needs.
- FREE. The term “open source” says WordPress is free to work with. You can at least give it a shot because it will not cost you anything.
- User-friendly. Even if you do not have the first clue about website building, you can explore the world of WordPress and get to know how stuff works.
- SEO-appealing. Since Google has been verbalized, your website solely relies on its algorithms to be found and read. WordPress has a remarkable reputation in the eyes of search engines.
- The community of developers is large. Whether you want a banner, a logo, a plugin that’s never been seen before or just someone to play with the coding, you can always count on WordPress developers because their numbers and expertize are constantly increasing.

WordPress photoblog differs from a traditional blog in the fact that it gives more relevance to images than to words. In photoblogs, images can be displayed in many ways, from simple layouts to complex galleries. You can rent a suitable host, install a photoblog software, configure everything, solve problems that may arise, search a suitable theme and install it, or you can just have it all with one click at Flickr or Deviantart, etc.
What’s the use of bothering so much creating a WordPress photoblog? The difference is mainly in the images ownership. Only if you post your images on your own server, you can have absolute control over them, but if you post them on one of those online communities, the image is not yours anymore.
There are quite a few photoblogs systems and, although each one stands out from the competence for some particular function, there’s one that has lots of features and a great demand. This is WordPress Yapb. WordPress photoblog works perfectly well with Yapb. It provides additional data and functions to themes, so that you can turn any theme into a photoblog, without any additional coding.
Photo Q is another WordPress plugin that turns your blog into a photoblog. You can mass upload photos because Photo Q storages pictures and gives you the decision to manage how you want your pictures posted. You can even set up an interval for posts. It simplifies and automates your photo posting process.
You upload your picture, enter any desired information about the picture, and Photo Q generates an automatic post with this information. You don’t need to remember any special post formatting instructions. It is extensible to almost any WordPress theme and it even comes preset with some of the most popular WordPress photoblogs. It also includes EXIF support, watermarking, batch editing and different image sizes.
You can also have a WordPress photoblog with Pictorialis. It is an easy to use image publishing tool, easily customizable. It is an Open Source application and it means that it is completely free to use and modify. As it is licensed under the GPL, you will have to adhere to it. WordPress photoblog also benefits from many photoblog plugins.
Try to use the ones whose options aren’t confusing and which have the maximum compatibility and flexibility. They should be simple and easy to use. Among other functions, they can offer nice effects, a simple slideshow that shows random photos or an archive page for your pictures.
There are many PHP and Javascripts available to create photo galleries, such as the following:
• fMoblog – Upload and display images from your cell phone. • Gallery 2 embedded in WordPress using the WPG2 Plugin • GRAND Flash Album Gallery – multi category flash skin based photo gallery with powerful admin. • CodEasily.com – Lazyest Gallery – Automatically includes galleries uploaded by ftp • PhotoJAR – Adds numerous features to the built-in Wordpress gallery • PhotoSmash Galleries – User contributable galleries that add images to the WordPress Media Gallery. More info at plugin homepage • Page Flip Image Gallery – 90 day trialware–other versions require payment. GPL Version • Piwigo with PiwigoMedia to insert photos in your posts and PiwigoPress to display thumbnails in your sidebar • w3images gallery – add an useful and costumizable Images Gallery to your WordPress • Zenphoto – +WP plugin

It is becoming a lot more easier to create content for your website nowadays especially if you are using the WordPress Content Management System (CMS). This article will share with you how you can start to create content for your WordPress site in a few steps.
After you have installed the WordPress on your server, you are now ready to create some content for your site. In this article, I will share how exactly you can create a website with pages. In WordPress, you only need to know how to create pages if you are creating a pure website. On the other hand, if you want to create a blog, you will need to know how to create blog posts (which won’t be covered in this article).
Once you have logged in to your WordPress dashboard, click on the pages menu on the left and you will see the add new pages option. Select the add new pages option and you will be presented a page where you can start to create content for you site. You can see that WordPress is a very user-friendly software that allows you to create any type of content easily such as text, images and even videos.
With the help of the visual editor, you can start typing the text and uploading relevant images that you want to show on your site. Just a few suggestions here when you want to create content, always use at least one image per page for your website. Web page that make up with only words are boring and tends to make visitors leave. Some visual aids like images or video would be helpful to keep your visitors in your site.
Once you have typed in all your content for a page, you can simply click the Publish button on the right to activate the page.
There are some options you can do before you publish the page as well. One of the options is you can decide what template you want to use for that particular page, do you want to have the side bar with this page? If no, you can select the option – One column, no sidebar under the template option. Another option is you can disable the comments section. This is particularly useful if you do not want people to comment on your pages (which is most of the time).
To conclude, creating content for your WordPress site is very easy and often takes more time to plan than execute. Once you know what are the pages you want to create for your site, it is very easy to use WordPress for the creation.
