Is it Necessary to Backup Your Exchange Servers?

Some companies, even in this day and age of viruses, do not believe that backing up their systems is a vital part of their overall IT strategy. But, if your company is not backing up, then you are living on borrowed time. Eventually the odds will catch up with you and a virus will hit, someone in your company will download a rogue application and freeze up the system, or the entire server will go down for no apparent reason. It happens in all companies sooner or later, and if you choose to backup Exchange servers sooner rather than later, you will be more apt to have valid data that you can recover.

Think about how long it has taken your company to get your servers in the condition that they are in. Years and years’ worth of data entry, emails, applications, customer data, billing information, and all kinds of data that can just never be replaced is all sitting there, just waiting to be lost. If you don’t backup Exchange, and do it regularly, you risk putting your entire company out of business, not to mention losing your job.

Of course, backing up your data is just one part of the equation – the other part is restoring it. Many companies fail to pay attention to how easy it is to restore from a particular piece of software, so if you backup Exchange servers using software that is out of date, does not come with support, or no one knows how to use, then it is about as good as not having a backup at all.

Backing up your system, your data, your customer’s information, and all the work that everyone has put into it during the lifetime of your company is absolutely vital in today’s high-tech world.
